Financial support

Additionally, there are Ministry of Social Development (MSD) civil defence payments available for those affected in the Dunedin area. In most cases, your income and assets do not impact your eligibility. You don’t need to be on a benefit, and non-residents may also qualify.
These payments can help with:
- Emergency food, clothing, and bedding if yours has been damaged or destroyed
- Costs if you’ve had to leave your home
- Payment for providing evacuees accommodation in your home, at a marae, or a community centre.
