Need-to-know answers
What’s a NZHL Mortgage Mentor?
Similar to a broker, a NZHL Mortgage Mentor acts as a go-between for you and the lender, working to secure the best possible home loan. They gather your financial details and approach various lenders to find a loan structure that fits your needs. They don’t stop there though; our mentors provide ongoing advice and support for as long as you have the home loan.
How do I secure a mentor?
It’s easy to secure a mentor, simply book a chat here and someone will be in touch. If you want to find a traditional mortgage broker, you’ll need to ask for recommendations in your network.
Is it quicker to use a mortgage Mentor?
The short answer is no. NZHL Mortgage Mentors are here to help you pay off your loan faster than the typical 30-year loan term. With continuous advice, mentorship, and systems in place, this is what will get you ahead of the curve.
How much does it cost to use a Mortgage Mentor?
There’s no cost to partnering with a Mortgage Mentor. Instead, they’re paid via commissions from the banks
Will this make the application process quicker?
Generally, yes, partnering with a NZHL Mortgage Mentor could make the loan application process much faster, typically 2-4 weeks. It could take 2 -6 weeks for it to be approved if you do it on your own.
When should I contact NZHL?
As soon as possible. If buying a house is on your radar, it’s time to partner with a mentor. They’ll help set you up for success for when the time comes to get your application in.
Can I talk to a few mentors?
We don’t recommend this. It’s best to talk to one mortgage mentor; otherwise, multiple applications may work against you when applying for a loan with the bank.
How do I increase my chances of getting a good interest rate?
When assessing your application, the banks look closely your financial situation (such as your income and expenses) and credit score. It’s ideal to get these in the best shape you can, so that your application looks attractive to the lender.
Do insurance brokers charge a fee NZ?
Yes, your NZHL Mortgage Mentor is a financial expert, so they can help you find the best insurance cover too.
