AshburtonHere’s the Mortgage Mentor difference
Rather than the traditional ‘set and forget’ approach, your mentor offers ongoing support at every step of your financial journey. From your initial home loan application, to navigating your life milestones and ups and downs, they’re here to help you make the best financial choices that get you closer to your goals.
With NZHL you’ll enjoy access to our DebtNav tool to monitor your income and expenses, and a tailored loan structure that works with you and your lifestyle. Your mentor will help keep you on the right track and mentor you along the way with regular check-ins.
If you’re ready to take control of your financial future, book a chat with a local Canterbury mentor. There’s no obligation to sign up, so you have nothing to lose.

Helpful information
How are a mortgage broker and a mentor different?
An NZHL Mortgage Mentor is a financial expert who stays with you at every step of your journey, long after your loan approval. Like a mortgage broker, they are the intermediary between you and the lender, but they go a few steps further to make sure you have continuous support and systems in place to help you achieve your short-term and long-term goals.
Where should I start when looking for a mentor?
It’s easy to team up with an NZHL Mortgage Mentor. Book a free chat and one of our Canterbury team members will be in touch. If you were to go with a traditional mortgage broker, you’d need to do your own search.
Can I still pay off my mortgage fast without the help of a mentor?
You may be able to, but with a mentor by your side, you’ll have expert support, systems, and tools in place to help you expedite your journey. Our experts specialise in helping Cantabrians become financially free, fast.
Do I have to pay anything to get started?
There are no costs to you. Simply team up with an NZHL Mortgage Mentor and enjoy the benefits! Our mentors get paid a commission or procuration fee by the lender, which is typically 0.35% of the loan.
Does a mentor make the application process faster?
On average, home loan approvals take between 2 to 6 weeks. Working with one of our NZHL Mortgage Mentors can speed things up, often reducing the process to a maximum of 4 weeks.
When is the best time to request a mentor?
As soon as you’ve set the goal to purchase a property, that is the best time to request a mentor. If that’s you, book a chat here.
Can I engage a few different advisors?
Talking to a few different advisors and getting them to help you with the loan application could potentially hinder your ability to get a home loan. It’s best to choose one person to deal with.
What’s the best way to get a good interest rate?
Your mentor will help you put the best foot forward for the best application, but other things you can do to help include: reviewing your finances and setting a clear budget. Boosting your credit score. Explore multiple lenders to compare your options. And don’t rush the process!
Do I pay extra for an insurance advisor?
No, your mentor can also help you with your insurance. Insurance advisors get paid either by commissions or a pre-agreed fee from the insurance companies.
